A bit about me

How I got here from there…

Born and raised in Hong Kong and Singapore, I’m what’s known as a third culture kid; someone raised in a culture different to their own. Much of my childhood was spent eating rice with just about everything, and learning the art of bartering at Winnie’s Toy Shop in Hong Kong’s Stanley Market, trying to get my hands on as many Pokemon cards as I could with leftover lunch money.

I moved to the UK for university, and spent five years after university living at sea, travelling the world onboard some of the largest superyachts in the world. I’ve had the pleasure of living in Mexico, Miami, and Barcelona, and now call Bristol my home.

My love-affair for photography began on these travels, as a way of preserving my own expression of what all these places have meant to me. I photographed everywhere I went and soon this was all I wanted to do.

Hiking, Scuba diving, beach days, I photographed it all. I soon realised I enjoyed it so much because it allowed me to express the beauty I saw everywhere I went in my own way, and these photos became an expression of myself.

I constantly sought to improve my skills, taking in as much information about the art as I could, steadily improving my craft. Over the years, through hundreds of hours of courses, a lot of trial and error, and a passion that never dulls, I have developed a style of photography that I feel accurately reflects myself.

As my skills progressed and I became more confident (I’m an introvert at heart!) I gained the confidence to begin photographing people. I quickly became obsessed at capturing the love between a couple as this is something that transcends race and culture and is infinitely complex. It is this progression that led me to wedding photography, and I have never looked back! I love being able to put all of myself into my work and do something that resonates with me. I hope throughout our photography experience together you will feel the passion for what I do.

What I do when I’m not working…

I love being active but am also a bit of a nerd. I spend my time playing a lot of tennis, going on long hikes and camping, roll around with a bit of jiu jitsu, and sail when I can. Landscape photography always takes priority wherever I go, which usually means lengthening summer hikes to wait for the best light. Luckily Brooke, my partner, enjoys knitting and brings it with her while we wait. We spend a lot of time at home cooking awesome meals together.

I read as much as I can, and recently have found myself enjoying yoga first thing in the morning. We travel as much as we can together, and our destinations are chosen based on level of adventure, photographic opportunities, and perceived quality of food.

How I go about working when I’m working

Cliche alert!

Love, compassion, and human interaction are the veins that transcend culture and unite us as humans. These things are expressed without language; Love is understood no matter where you are in the world. Witness a couple in love and you can’t help but smile!

My aim is to express your love and capture it in the most authentic way possible. We'll get to know each other - I’ll learn the bond between the two of you and what makes you tick, how you express yourselves, and you might even tell me the quirks about your other half! We’ll work together to create photographs that a stranger could look at and have an insight into your love.

My approach is more candid than posed. We’ll do the necessary photographs to keep the parents happy, find the good light and do some fun portraits, and the rest of the time I’ll document the most authentic moments all the way through the wedding day. The look I strive to achieve in my photographs is an authentic, film-like look that will remain timeless so you can look back on your photographs in the years to come with an incredible sense of nostalgia.

I would love for you to get in contact so we can chat about working together! I think it’s important we get to know each other before committing to anything so send me a email or fill out the contact form and we’ll arrange a date and time to chat.

The beauty of my job is that it is also my passion. Nothing makes me more excited than the prospect of capturing the love between a couple, and having the privilege to be a part of your celebration of this love is not something I take lightly. However you choose to express your love, whether an intimate beach elopement or grand church ceremony, all my clients can rest assured that each and every time I show up for a photoshoot, I show up with the same burning passion for creativity and professionalism. Nothing makes me happier than creating beautiful photographs, and I look forward to creating them with you.
